BBC Expands Outreach Via Nokia Apps

World Service develops app for smartphone series

The BBC’s World Service will now be available on Nokia Series 40 smartphones via a group of free apps.

The apps will provide multilingual news content from 11 BBC language services titled Arabic, Brasil (Portuguese), Chinese, Hindi, Indonesia, Mundo (Spanish), Russian, Turkce, Ukrainian, Urdu and Vietnamese.

According to the BBC, Nokia phones are still the most popular brand, especially in the developing world.

BBC Global News Controller of Digital and Technology James Montgomery stated: “Nokia’s Series 40 devices are still the most popular in the world, with more than 675 million handsets in the market to date.” He said the organization is “committed to its digital audiences across the world, who use less sophisticated handsets but still seek access to unbiased and trustworthy reporting.”
