KBHP to Receive Special Crystal Award

NAB has given it only once before

KBHP(FM) is doing something right.

The radio station in Bemidji, Minn., will be singled out for special honors at the 2011 NAB Show. It will receive the Crystal Heritage Award from the National Association of Broadcasters.

The award is presented to a station that embodies the deepest commitment to public service and betterment of its community. A recipient must have earned five prior Crystal Radio Awards. The only other station to receive one is Philadelphia’s WUSL(FM), three years ago.

KBHP took its first Crystal in 1994. “KB101” is owned by Paul Bunyan Broadcasting and has showcased the annual “Radiothon to End Child Abuse” every year since 1989, raising a total of $818,630 to fight abuse and neglect in Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater and Hubbard counties.

The award will be presented during the NAB Show Radio Luncheon on Thursday, April 12, alongside 10 Crystal Radio Award winners. The NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame will induct radio personality Gerry House then too.

Crystal Radio Awards are an annual staple of the NAB Show, given to stations that display dedication to community service.
