For the first time, the National Association of Shortwave Broadcasters will hold its annual meeting outside of Washington.
The move is likely to bring further attention to the development of Digital Radio Mondiale because the event will be held in an engineering facility that has been involved in DRM research.
The USA Digital Radio Mondiale group and the NASB will hold their annual meetings concurrently in May in Elkhart, Ind., May 10 and 11. The venue is the HCJB Global Technology Center; HCJB operates a big shortwave station in Ecuador as well as other entities. Its engineering facility has been involved in research into DRM, which proponents say allows shortwave and AM radio signals to enjoy FM quality.
Meetings are open to broadcasters and other interested parties, according to Jeff White, NASB president.
Tours of HCJB and the headquarters of shortwave broadcaster LeSea Broadcasting in South Bend are on the agenda.
NASB and the USA DRM Group are have many common members, White said, “since some of the strongest supporters of DRM technology have been shortwave broadcasters.” The FCC has authorized U.S. shortwave stations to broadcast in DRM.
