Remember the Studioette?

Bill Mountjoy weighs in

Here is a rare shot from Bill Mountjoy’s collection, of the Gates Model 51CS ‘Studioette,’ from 1953.
Dear RW,

I saw John Schneider’s article in the June 5 edition of Radio World, showing the Western Electric 25B Console. I sent him a picture of my Western Electric Console, which came from WEJL Radio in Scranton, Pa. I always thought that Western Electric consoles had a cool art-deco look to them. I also have the 23C tabletop consoles and a couple of the 22D remote mixers as well. Great article.

Also, I emailed Schneider a picture of a very rare Gates Model 51CS, “Studioette,” console from 1953 (shown here). This rare bird was the first in a series of “Studioette” consoles that were manufactured by Parker Gates at the Quincy, Ill., plant. I understand that this console is so rare that up until now there is not a picture of it anywhere on the Internet.
