FCC Sets Settlement Period for Translator MX Apps

File your forms by Nov. 29

Did you file for an FM “cross-service” translator for your AM station in the latest window and now find yourself in a “mutually exclusive” situation with another applicant?

The Federal Communications Commission just announced important next steps. The period during which you can enter into settlement agreements or otherwise resolve that conflict via technical solutions is open now through Nov. 29; and the FCC laid out the process.

The commission has identified 88 such conflicts, as shown in an attachment; if you think you are listed in error, contact the Audio Division staff. All Form 349 submissions filed during the Auction 99 filing window are available for review in its CDBS Public Access system.

At this point, the FCC says, translator applicants may discuss settlements to resolve their mutual exclusivity or “MX” problems for the proposals listed, but only through Nov. 9.

The commission’s MX process description involves some legalese; but the details matter if you’re in one of those 88 situations.

Applicants in need of further instruction for the CDBS Electronic Filing System can access it online here or call the Audio Division Help Desk at (202) 418-2662.
