Media company 21st Venture AS is embarking on a DRM+ trial in Trondheim, Norway, during May and June this year. The trial will broadcast 50 W DRM+ on 94.0 MHz.
The company runs Radio Metro and several other local radio stations and has secured government funding for the project.
The trial will coincide with the Annual Conference of the Norwegian Local Radio Association, May 24-26.
After successful trials in New Delhi, Edinburgh, the Vatican City State and Brazil, says the organization, the DRM Consortium has endorsed the first DRM+ trial involving a commercial radio network as they test several receiver solutions.
“One of the key benefits of DRM+ is that you are using existing infrastructure and thus get digital radio almost free of charge,” said Eivind Engberg, technical manager of Radio Metro. “DRM+ also uses so little capacity that you can feed the transmission site via ICE (Net1), 3G or ADSL.”
