31-Year Clear Channel Vet Retires

Thirty-one year Clear Channel veteran Steve Winkey is retiring from his position as Regional Vice President for Iowa and eastern Nebraska. He had 11 markets and 48 stations under his umbrella as Regional Vice President, a concept that wasn’t even thinkable when Winkey started his career in 1971 as a radio salesman in Waterloo, Iowa at KWWL.
“The changes in radio have been nothing short of explosive, said Winkey. “I can’t imagine having spent my entire career in a more exciting, volatile and changing industry. Those of us who have been through the pre-during-and -post consolidation era of radio witnessed history first hand. It has been a heck of a run.”
He said, “But it’s time to listen to the radio while I hunt and farm and let someone else worry about whether or not it’s making money. I may even phone into a contest or two, now that I’m not a Clear Channel employee!”
Replacing Steve Winkey is John Laton, who takes over the Iowa and Nebraska region after a long history in East Coast radio, including Portland, Maine and Boston.
