A Merger of Historical Societies

California sees SOWP join CHRS

The Society of Wireless Pioneers is joining California Historical Radio Society, where it will become a program of the larger institution.

The SOWP honored the service of marine and other wireless operators — shipboard and shore-based, mostly Morse Code communications. The society’s archives will be transferred and maintained at the CHRS’s Berkeley, Calif. headquarters in the KRE building.

Along with preserving the archives, the CHRS intends to reinvigorate the Web presence of the SOWP and continue its mission into early marine wireless communications.

The CHRS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving radio equipment and history. It is especially active in northern California, having absorbed the Bay Area Radio Museum.
