AEQ Gear Used at 2015 Athletics World Championships

Utilized Phoenix Stratos IP, ISDN codecs for international connectivity of the commentary signal and bi-directional programming

China Central Television served as the host broadcaster for the 2015 Athletics World Championships and relied upon AEQ to provide all of the commentary units for the broadcast.

AEQ, who had previously provided the commentary units during the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, deployed and installed the connections between the Commentary Control Unit frames in the Commentary Control Room.

According to the firm, the CCUs in the CCR presented the unilateral commentary signals to the AEQ NetBOX 32 Audio Interfaces and network nodes. These were then connected to a standard, managed gigabit switch with fiber links. Two redundant and diverse dark-fiber paths linked the CCR with the Commentary Switching Center in the IBC/Broadcast compound. From there the signals were distributed to the RHBs in analog or digital.

To control and monitor the system signals, Dante controllers and Dante virtual sound cards on computers were used at both CCR and CSC, allowing for both control of the signal paths and the ability to monitor commentary signal programs, the company said.

AEQ also utilized its AEQ Phoenix Stratos IP and ISDN codecs to provide international connectivity of the commentary signal and bi-directional program and coordination with the RHB facilities in the IBC and the commentary positions in the stadium, it added.

The 2015 Athletics World Championships, which were organized by IAAF, took place in Beijing from Aug. 22-30 at the Bird’s Nest stadium.
