The upcoming AES Show in Los Angeles Sept. 29, Oct—2, will devote a track to a series of presentations and panels to “Networked Audio.” Many of these will be of interest to radio professionals as IP digital networks have become so important to the industry.
A highly relevant session for radio engineers is “AES67 Interoperability Testing — The Plugfest Report,” Oct. 2, 10:45 a.m.–12:15 p.m., led by Kevin Gross of AVA Networks.
On the specification side, “AES67 Discovery” is being presented by Aidan Williams of Dante technology developer Audinate, Sept. 29, 9–10:30 a.m. It will focus on the methods of network device discovery employed byAES67.
From Ravenna developer ALC NetworkX, Andreas Hildebrand will present “Rolling out AES67 into Real-World Applications,” a look at moving from theory and paper into actual use of the AES67 technology. It takes place Sept. 29, 10:45 a.m.–12:15 p.m.
Audinate’s Chris Ware addresses an increasingly familiar challenge (and one that’s not going away), “Understanding Audio Capabilities and Bandwidth in Mixed Use Networks” (Sept. 30, 3:15–4:45 p.m.). A similar presentation will come from Greg Schlechter of Intel, “The Internet of Media Things for Installed AV, Recording and Live Events,” Oct. 1, 9–10:30 a.m.
Yamaha’s Patrick Killianey will ride herd on two interesting sessions: “Optimizing Audio Networks” (Oct. 1, 10:45 a.m.–12:15 p.m.) and “Who Owns the Audio Network, IT or AV?” (Oct. 2, 3:15–4:45 p.m.). The optimization talk will cover leading methods audio networks use to achieve low latency and highly-optimized bandwidth.
And if you find this daunting, there will be a panel filled with IP audio equipment manufacturers gathering to commiserate on this new world, “AES67 and the Audio Industry.” They too have their stumbles.
