AFTRA: Keep Radio Live

The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists is opposing voice-tracking, a practice that has been used by some of the major radio groups for some time. AFTRA is urging members to learn more about the practice and “fight to keep radio alive”.
According to a statement released by AFTRA: “Live radio and live radio announcers could become extinct!” The union has set its sites on Clear Channel, although other radio groups use the same concept of pre-recorded programming to fill some air shifts as well. To some, voice-tracking is another form of satellite programming, or, if you want to go back further in time, a Drake-Chenault like tape service.
