On Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. CET all of the Belgian public Dutch-language broadcaster VRT’s radio channels began broadcasting via DAB+.
VRT is now simulcasting its stations Radio 1, Radio 2, Klara, Studio Brussel and MNM on FM and DAB+, while it is also making available its online radio selections, which include MNM Hits, Klara Continuo and VRT NWS, on DAB+.
Radio 2 sees the digital move as bringing an added advantage — it means all its regional content is now available to the entire area of Flanders. Previously, via the FM-only broadcasts, each of the station’s five regional broadcasts (Antwerp, Limburg, East Flanders, West Flanders and Flemish Brabant) aired dedicated regional information and news only on their respective FM frequencies.
VRT has confirmed its commitment to FM broadcasts pending a general digital switchover, as specified in the agreement concluded between the broadcaster and the Flemish Government.
