ARCO EAS Ads Aired at Least Through Sunday

Media Monitors logs airings

Those ARCO ads that include a snippet of an EAS tone sure got the attention of the radio alerting community.

As we reported here earlier, the Society of Broadcast Engineers last week told members that the ads simulated EAS header tones at the front of the message and include the phrase ‘This is a test’ and then a simulated eight second tone. The SBE said the spot tripped some EAS encoders/decoders at monitoring stations that aired the commercial.

Broadcast monitoring and verification service Media Monitors followed up with a report indicating that some stations were still airing the ad.

It pulled data from Aug. 30 to Sept. 12, Sunday, and showed through 5 p.m. local time Sept. 12, the ad had run 305 times in Los Angeles, 204 times in Seattle and 170 times in both Portland, Oregon and Riverside-San Bernardino.
