They might still be competitors in the ratings books — but iHeartMedia and Audacy are partnering to bring Audacy’s offerings to the iHeartRadio app.
The two media companies announced the content partnership Monday, which, effective immediately, means Audacy’s radio stations and podcasts will be available on iHeart’s mobile platform.
iHeartMedia is the largest commercial radio owner in the U.S., with approximately 982 stations — 739 FM and 243 AM. Audacy is fourth, behind Cumulus and Townsquare, with approximately 256 stations — 201 FM and 55 AM.
The iHeartRadio app partnership, an Audacy spokesperson said, is a reflection of their desire to meet its audience “wherever they listen.” The company believes Audacy’s presence on the app will strengthen what it delivers for its advertisers.
Michael Biondo, president of business development and strategic partnerships at iHeartMedia, called the collaboration “an exciting day for the industry.”
Audacy will continue to promote its own mobile platform, which will still include features native to the app, such as the ability to rewind during linear station programming.
A release said that its presence on the iHeartRadio app will allow Audacy content to be available on approximately 500 additional platforms and 2,000 additional devices, including smart speakers, digital audio dashes, tablets, wearables and smartphones.
