Instead of giving its staff seasonal gifts last December, Swiss IP technology firm Barix donated a significant sum to the Nepalese charity Children in Need.
Children in Need runs a shelter in Kathmandu, Nepal, and provides deprived youngsters with a safe haven from forced labor.
The Barix business philosophy includes a commitment to promoting fair trading relationships in an environment of trust.
“Our donation came about as a direct result of this philosophy — through conversations with Sanjeev Kumar Jha, chief executive of Waituk [a Kathmandu-based Web solutions company], we became aware of this issue, and decided to offer our support,” said Barix Chief Executive Johannes Rietschel.
According to Jha, the Children in Need shelter will save the lives of many homeless children, getting them off the streets and enabling physicians and nurses to treat their illnesses and disabilities on a regular basis.
“The Barix contribution,” said Jha, “is part of a long and ongoing process that we hope will cause an awakening among Nepalese society.”
