Broadcast Electronics has added emergency-alert Messagecasting to TRE Message Manager, the company’s text application suite for RDS, HD Radio and the Web.
TRE Text Manager can be used to automate promos, traffic and song text by station and cluster. The optional module makes it possible for stations to feed text messages originated by civil authorities to RDS/HD Radio receivers as well as the station Web site. Text readouts of emergency alerts appear on the face of the HD radio and RDS tuners in place of song title and artist name.
BE says it developed the option in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and based it on emergency triggers and codes established by authorities. The EAS text broadcasts, along with audio as activations from the weather bureau occur and evacuation updates from civil authorities develop, communicate shelter locations and update the public on safety issues.
The EAS Messagecasting module is available for studio operations outfitted with BE’s The Radio Experience.
