BE said it shipped a transmitter to Pakistan on Friday in response to a request by the government there after the earthquake of Oct. 8.
The 1 kW Plug N Play 1000 is being donated by Broadcast Electronics and will be used by the Volunteer Radio Service to transmit news, weather and disaster relief information in Neelam Valley, a region close to the disaster epicenter, BE stated.
“The main purpose of this radio (station) is to provide information about missing people and families, to inform them about relief activities, medical aid points, supply of food and weather … and most importantly to give them encouragement and to give the hope to affected people to live after this deadly disaster, ” according to a statement by the Volunteer Radio Service.
The unit is being installed by Engineering Systems & Services in Islamabad.
