BE Transmitter Installations Jumpstart Next Phase of India Privatization

Broadcast Electronics says the second phase of FM privatization in India has begun with the installation of three BE transmission systems.
BE representative Technomedia Solutions of India installed BE FM 10S turnkey transmission systems on Radio Mirchi 105 FM (Jaipur), Radio Mirchi 93.3 FM (Bangalore) and Radio Mirchi 95 FM (Hyderabad) in April, ushering in the country’s second round of radio privatization.
The stations are owned by India’s largest private FM operator, Entertainment Network India Ltd., which now operates 10 radio channels in several markets under the brand name Radio Mirchi.
With these installations, ENIL begin operating the 250 new FMs private-licensed in 90 India markets in recent months.
India FM radio began the first phase of privatization in 1999, when governing authorities there opened up 108 frequencies for private operation in 40 cities. “ENIL is a good example of competitive radio in India,” said P.S. Sundaram, managing director for Technomedia Solutions. “[It’s] been able to respond quickly to market demands with a popular brand and services.”
