Canadian Satellite Radio Ahead?

XM will seek permission to offer satellite radio service in Canada, according to published reports. Today’s Trucking magazine reported this week that Toronto businessman John Bitove Jr. would like to explore launching a joint venture with XM Satellite Radio.
The company reportedly will file an application for a license to the Canadian regulatory agency in the fall. It quoted an XM spokesman as saying XM could begin taking subscribers in the spring. The story said “the company would require little in the way of new infrastructure: its satellite signal already reaches into the most heavily traveled and populated areas of Canada, along the border.”
