Clear Channel Lays Out Plans for Huge Burbank Facility; Harris Is Integrator

Big markets and big personalities need big facilities.
Harris Corp. said it won the contract as facility integrator and equipment supplier for the new 55-studio broadcast complex in the Warner Music Building in Burbank, Calif., for Clear Channel’s Los Angeles stations. The new facility will use Harris BMXdigital on-air consoles, VistaMax networking and Harris Pacific studio furniture.
The new broadcast complex will consolidate operations of KFI(AM), KOST(FM), KBIG(FM), KIIS(FM), KHHT(FM), KYSR(FM), KXTA(AM) and KLAC(AM). Rick Dees and NBA Lakers coverage are among the prominent programs originating from these stations.
The supplier noted in its announcement that there is history between the organizations.
“The agreement renews a 30-year relationship with long-time talk radio champion, KFI(AM), that began with Pacific Research and Engineering’s first custom consoles and the first turnkey facility installation for KFI in 1974, and continued through the 1980s with console upgrades.” PR&E was acquired in 1999 by Harris Broadcast.
