The tech honchos at Clear Channel Radio tell TLR (that’s “The Leslie Report”) that they have named nine engineers to win the company’s annual Engineer of the Year Award.
The company solicited names from its regional VPs of engineering, who were asked to nominate an engineer they felt was the best in each of their regions. Making the announcement, execs Steve Davis and Jeff Littlejohn said Clear Channel enjoys “a cadre of engineers that is unmatched in our industry.” It’s nice to see the broadcaster making a fuss over its technical staff in recent years, something RW has long pushed for around the industry.
In the eastern region, the winners are: Large Market (1-49): Wilson Welch, chief RF engineer, Tampa, Fla; Medium Market (50-99): Mike Fleming, market engineering manager, Richmond, Va.; and Small Market (100 up): Gerry Westerberg, market engineering manager, Lexington, Ky.
In the west, Large Market: John Rigg, DOE, San Diego; Medium Market: Mike Irby, DOE, Tucson, Ariz.; and Small Market: Brett Gilbert, DOE, Waco Texas.
In the central region: Large Market: Mike Camarato, assistant market DOE, Cleveland; Medium Market: Greg Gade, chief engineer, Omaha; and Small Market: Rick Chalfant, assistant chief engineer, Des Moines.
Winners win travel, lodging and admission to the NAB show. (How about a raise, too?)
