College Broadcasters Inc. (CBI) has announced its 2025 Student Sportscasting Workshop, which is set to take place in just a few short weeks on July 22–24.

According to organizers, this three-day virtual event will bring together industry professionals and aspiring sports broadcasters to prepare students for careers in sports media production and broadcasting.

The biennial workshop addresses all aspects of sports coverage across radio, television and digital platforms. According to a CBI press release, attendees will have access to sessions covering game preparation, play-by-play fundamentals and sport-specific broadcasting strategies for basketball, baseball, football and hockey.

Additional programming includes how-tos on producing compelling game entertainment coverage, working with sports information directors and commercial outlets, shooting and editing highlights, press box production technology and career development strategies.

“This workshop represents the combined expertise of seasoned professionals who understand what it takes to succeed in sports media,” said CBI President Anabella Poland in the release. “We are providing the next generation of broadcasters with direct access to industry leaders who can share real-world knowledge and help level up their broadcasting skills.”

Some of the industry experts expected to attend and speak at the virtual event include Colin Cosell, public announcer for the New York Mets and Army Football; Betsy Ross, president of Game Day Communications; Tony Brown, director of broadcast services and play-by-play announcer for the Cleveland Monsters Hockey; Rafa Hernandez-Brito, bilingual broadcaster and community impact and equity ambassador for the Cleveland Cavaliers; and Jake Vulinec, host/anchor at 92.3 The Fan.

Sessions will include interactive elements and opportunities for direct engagement with industry professionals.

Registration is now open with tiered pricing. CBI member students, advisers and managers can register for $75, while non-CBI member students, advisers and managers pay $100. Other attendees can register for $150.

CBI is a national organization representing students involved in educational radio, television, webcasting and other related media ventures.
