Cumulus’ Richards Heads to San Francisco

Mike McGowan upped to PD of WEBE Bridgeport and Jay Michaels Joins WEBE as morning host

Cumulus Media has named Jim Richards as operations manager/program director of radio stations KFOG(FM) and KSAN(FM) in San Francisco. Cumulus also named Mike McGowan to program director of WEBE(FM) in Bridgeport, Conn. Morning personality Jay Michaels has also been chosen as morning host for WEBE.

Richards comes to his new post from Chicago, where he served Cumulus as Operations Manager of WLUP(FM), The Loop, and alternative WKQX(FM). Richards started his radio career in suburban Louisville 32 years ago at the age of 15. He has since programmed radio stations in markets including: Seattle, San Diego, San Jose, Calif., Cincinnati, Knoxville, Tenn., and Grand Rapids, Mich. He also worked in Los Angeles for Tribune Interactive.

McGowan will remain afternoon drive host of WEBE, a position he has held for two years, while successfully maintaining double-digit ratings and keeping station imaging fresh and relatable, a release said.

Jay Michaels

Michaels was most recently with the True Oldies Channel. Prior to that, he was morning host for Cumulus’ WFAS from 1993 through 2013. While at WFAS(FM), Michaels was honored for his work with the Best of Westchester Award. He was also on-air/production director of WYNY(FM) in New York for six years.

Cumulus’ audio content is distributed through approximately 460 owned and operated stations in 89 U.S. media markets, over 10,000 broadcast radio affiliates and through numerous digital channels.
