John Abdnour, regional sales manager, Asia/Pacific for Nautel, sends Radio World this notification of the passing of his friend and colleague, David Hultsman.

Wisdom comes with age but nobody told us when we were young that time would pass by like the wind.

David Hultsman was district sales manager for Collins and then Continental for over 35 years. Before that, he was chief engineer at some of the nation’s best radio stations.

Dave died Aug. 27, succumbing to his two-year battle with cancer. He was 72.

Everyone knew Dave as an excellent engineer, wonderful people person, good friend and the self-proclaimed “mouth of the South.” I knew him for decades. He was a great friend and mentor to many.

He served Continental and his customers well with enthusiasm and with the ability to balance what was best for the company with what was needed by the customer. For over 40 years, Dave was a familiar site at NAB and other shows. His broadcast career spanned over five decades.

He leaves his wife Karen, three children and grandchildren.

To his well-earned credit, Dave was presented with the first Texas Association of Broadcasters “Stephen H. Schott Excellence in Engineering Award.” The award was named in honor of the late Steve Schott who was district sales manager for Collins/Continental, Harris and Broadcast Electronics.
