Dodgers and iHeartMedia Sign Deal

NHL’s Lightning sign with iHeartMedia Tampa Bay

The confused media situation in Southern California with the Los Angeles Dodgers just got a little clearer with the signing of a carriage extension deal with iHeartMedia’s KLAC(AM). … Or maybe it got a little more confused.

The possibly confusing aspect is that the Dodgers have taken an “equity position” in the station, according to the announcement. The exact details of that were not provided. The Dodgers’ TV coverage situation is looking like a Gordian Knot these days.

And speaking of unusual structures, the announcement also noted that the hybrid broadcasting configuration of Vin Scully simulcasting on radio the first three innings (he’s doing the TV coverage) while former Dodger Rick Monday and Charley Steiner take over for the remaining innings will continue.

On a more traditional note — ice hockey in Florida — the Tampa Bay Lightning have announced a three-season deal with iHeartMedia’s talker WFLA(AM). The iHeartMedia Tampa/St. Pete sports talk station, WDAE(AM/FM), will provide promotional support.
