The FCC has taken action on a petition submitted by NAB about how the satellite radio companies use their traffic and weather channels. Specifically, NAB wants the commission to prohibit XM and Sirius from sending local content over their nationwide satellite radio service. And, as the satcasters enhance their receiver designs, NAB wants the agency to forbid the satcasters from using receivers that can be programmed by the user to receive certain content depending on location.
The FCC seeks comment on NAB’s petition, which was filed on April 14. Public comments, (Docket # MB 04-160), are due June 4.
