Geico Is Radio’s Top Advertiser, Again

Media Monitors issues its final report for 2011

U.S. commercial radio stations have more reason to be grateful to the gecko and his friends.

Insurer Geico ran the most spots of any company over the past year, as counted by data and monitoring firm Media Monitors, which issued its 2011 leader report.

Media Monitors counted about 2.23 million Geico spots. Home Depot again held the second spot, 2.1 million and McDonald’s repeated at third place with 1.3 million.

The data firm said Wal-Mart moved up to fourth from seventh. State Farm was a big gainer, up to No. 6 from 25th last year. The HD Digital Radio Alliance slipped from fifth to seventh.

Gone from the top 10 this year are AT&T, Kohl’s and Subway.
