Greater Media Opens Digital Music Stores

Radio continues to look for ways to be part of the music purchasing and downloading industry.
Greater Media announced online digital music stores at several of its stations’ websites in Boston and
Philadelphia.
Several are operational; more are coming. The stations are WBOS, WKLB and WROR in Boston, WMMR, WMGK and WMWX in Philadelphia.
Listeners visiting their station’s Web site will have the opportunity to purchase songs through the site for 99 cents.
They can search for music, hear clips or use an animated “Tune Genie” to help them find music they might like. The music will be available on the listener’s computer for burning onto CDs and for use in a portable player. Listeners also can browse through a station’s past 24-hour broadcast.
President/CEO Peter Smyth said in a statement, “This, along with Greater Media’s commitment to having all of its stations broadcasting in HD by the end of 2005, once again proves our company is very committed to embracing today’s technology and blazing new trails in the radio industry.”
