Ibiquity Digital put out a press release Monday stating that Crawford Broadcasting’s WPWX(FM) in Chicago had turned on HD Radio. RW Online readers knew about it 10 days earlier. As we reported in mid-July, WPWX at 92.3 MHz began broadcasting in digital on July 7 and went on full-time on July 16 using BE and Shively gear.
The activation marked a milestone, the company said.
“With the conversion of another high-profile station in the nation’s fourth-largest market, HD Radio digital broadcasts will emanate from stations serving over 1 million listeners,” Ibiquity stated. “Additional licensing commitments from Chicago broadcasters will increase the reach to over 2.2 million listeners in the coming months.”
HD Radio receivers, however, have yet to reach consumers.
