Baltimore radio manager Ed Kiernan intends to retire this summer.
Since 1991, Kiernan has been vice president and general manager of Hearst Television Inc.’s only radio properties — news talker WBAL(AM) on 1190 kHz and “98 Rock” WIYY(FM).
The broadcaster owns 29 television stations.
“With Ed at the helm, WBAL has been among the nation’s most honored radio stations and a major community force through the WBAL Radio Kids Campaign,” according to Hearst Television President Jordan Wertlieb. “Throughout his tenure, Ed has built upon 98 Rock’s 37-year history, including expanding the station’s presence on the Web and in mobile applications.”
Before coming to Baltimore, Kiernan worked 17 years at CBS in New York, where he was vice president and general manager of “Newsradio 880” WCBS(AM). The 65-year-old Kiernan and his wife plan to move to a home they have in the Hamptons on Long Island.
Hearst said the company will name a successor in the future.
