Horrocks Tapped to Head BBC WS

Head of BBC Multi Media Newsroom takes up new role in mid-April.

Peter Horrocks, currently head of the BBC Multi Media Newsroom, has been appointed director of BBC World Service.

Horrocks will be responsible for the overall editorial leadership and management of the international broadcaster. He will assume his new role in mid-April.

BBC World Service delivers programming and services in 32 languages on television, radio and new media to a global audience of at least 182 million every week.

Since joining the BBC in October 1981 as a news trainee, Horrocks has been the editor of both “Newsnight” and “Panorama” — the BBC’s domestic flagship television current affairs programs. He has been head of the BBC Multi Media Newsroom since September 2005.

Peter won BAFTA awards in 1997 and 2005 for his editorship of “Newsnight” and for the documentary series “The Power of Nightmares” respectively.
