IBiquity Features In-Vehicle Advancements at European Conference

Potential HD Radio telematics services discussed

HD Radio developer iBiquity Digital highlighted in-vehicle advancements at a special forum across the pond.

The technology developer held its fourth annual HD Radio Forum Europe in late February; this year’s event was held in Sindelfingen (Stuttgart), Germany. The annual event provides a platform for iBiquity’s partners to share developments and trends in the automotive industry, as OEMs continue to adopt the digital radio technology.

COO Jeff Jury said the forum demonstrated “how HD Radio technology enables advanced capabilities that represent significant improvements vs. traditional analog. The automotive industry has recognized this and we have seen major movements toward standardization.”

Potential HD Radio telematics services include advanced navigation, premium content, mobile entertainment and targeted data services like real-time traffic, iTunes Tagging and store and replay capability.

Some 100 attendees participated in the forum, according to iBiquity; companies taking part included broadcasters, content providers and IC manufacturers.

Among those giving presentations were Clear Channel, Elektrobit, Fraunhofer-Institute (Journaline), Intertek, Navteq, NDS, NXP Semiconductors, the European HD Radio Alliance, Siport, STMicroelectronics, Strategy Analytics and Texas Instruments.
