Many in radio have come to know DTS Inc. as the new parent of HD Radio technology; but here the audio manufacturer is partnering with another major radio/audio entity, iHeartRadio, which joins a DTS Play-Fi ecosystem that also includes Spotify, Pandora, SiriusXM, Rhapsody and Tidal, plus Internet radio stations and listeners’ personal music libraries.

With DTS Play-Fi, listeners stream audio over a home Wi-Fi network from smartphones, tablets and PCs, in what is described as high-quality lossless audio.

“The platform delivers an optimized whole-home streaming experience without the constraints of a single brand system,” DTS promises in its marketing. “Audio sources, speakers and audio components from different manufacturers interoperate seamlessly in an open ecosystem that includes products from Acer, Anthem, Definitive Technology, HP, MartinLogan, McIntosh, Paradigm, Phorus, Polk Audio and Wren.”

The Play-Fi app is available for both Android and iOS devices.

The announcement was made by Michele Laven, president of business development and partnerships for iHeartMedia, and Dannie Lau, general manager, Play-Fi, at DTS Inc.
