Infinity Goes Spanish in Washington ...

Infinity Broadcasting says the new “El Zol” 99.1 FM will feature a mix Of Salsa, Merengue and Bachata music. For 35 years, the WHFS calls meant alternative to Washingtonians. The new station launched at noon Eastern.
The new format, a blend of Caribbean and Central American dance music, is aimed at adults ages 25-54.
Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc. advised Infinity on the reformatting of the station. Both groups announced an alliance in October 2004 which included Infinity getting an equity interest in SBS.
The Hispanic population in Washington, D.C. has grown more than 25% in the last four years to an excess of 400,000, and is expected to continue to be the fastest growing segment of the metro area in the coming years, according to the companies.
