Clear Channel station KDWB(FM) in Minneapolis and Bonneville’s WWZZ(FM)/WWVZ(FM) near Washington will be the radio honorees of the Service to America Awards next month.
The NAB Education Foundation will salute the winners at its Service to America Celebration in Washington.
The Partnership Award recognizes broadcasters and their corporate or community partners for public service. KDWB was honored with its partner University Pediatrics Foundation.
The Friend in Need Award honors broadcasters for outstanding service in the face of natural disasters and other potentially life-threatening situations. WWZZ/WWVZ received that recognition for its actions during and after the sniper attacks in the Washington area last fall. The station held a 24-hour “Request-A-Thon,” donating $288,000 in airtime, raising $126,000 in pledges for the victims’ families and helping to create a family relief fund.
