KJIK Employee Charged With Arson

Duncan, Ariz. Class C1 gear moved

Police in Arizona have charged an employee of KJIK(FM), Duncan, Ariz., with arson.

Scott Welbaum allegedly set the fires last Wednesday and watched the building burn, reports the Eastern Arizona Courier.

The fire department put out multiple fires in the building and police learned the anonymous phone call that tipped them off about the flames had been placed at a pay phone across the street from the station.

Police say Welbaum had five wood matches on him when he was arrested, according to the account.

The Class C1 station went back on the air shortly after the fires. Station personnel reacted quickly to move essential equipment and reestablish the broadcast chain, according to a statement from KJIK GM Dan Curtis.
