Louisville Public Media Receives Grant

Classical music education and involvement part of goals

Not all public radio stations in Kentucky are releasing bad news. Louisville Public Media has announced a $100,000 grant from PNC Bank for classical music programming on WUOL(FM)/90.5 Classical Louisville.

A release explained, “The funds will allow for expanded education outreach to foster and develop active participation in the arts through classical music.”

More specifically the grant will help the station broaden its presence across a variety of digital platforms while also building original programming and expanding audiences, increase community engagement and expand local youth educational programs.

Part of the effort will include a newly developed podcast entitled “The Music Box,” hosted by Sara Soltau. It “will serve [as] an educational resource for teachers in the classroom, providing context for the music. By creating an educational podcast aimed at young children, classical music will become more accessible.”

PNC Bank Greater Louisville and Tennessee Regional President Chuck Denny said, “Engaging our community’s young children in music and with musical instruments exposes their minds to sound, touch and thinking concepts that develop math, science, reading and expression skills that help them succeed in school and life.”
