June 15 will be the starting date for Nebraska Public Media Omaha.
Nebraska Public Media acquired Class C0 101.9 KOOO(FM) from NRG Media in February for $1.2 million. Since May 13, when the sale officially completed, the signal has been airing preview programming, according to a release.
After the launch, the public radio network will be heard across the Cornhusker State on 14 full-power FM signals and two translators.
“Adding a dedicated radio signal in Omaha is something we have been working toward for a long time, and I am proud that the moment is finally here,” said Stacey Decker, Nebraska Public Media general manager and CEO, in the release.
Listeners will hear a weekday schedule of NPR programming alongside news and updates from Nebraska Public Media’s Omaha and statewide newsroom on the 101.9 FM signal. Weeknights beginning at 7 p.m. central time, KOOO will shift to an adult album alternative music format.

Nebraska Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame member Dale Johnson is heard locally during NPR’s “Morning Edition,” while Omaha native Grant Winterer is heard during afternoon airings of “All Things Considered.”
The release also cited local reporting from Omaha-based journalists Jessica Wade and Molly Ashford, as well as state legislative coverage from Fred Knapp and Noelle Annonen.
