Magic, One FM Tap PROFline for Distribution

Application is a satellite distribution network in Romania

SBS Broadcasting Media has contracted with PROFline B.V. for an IDC satellite distribution network for its Magic FM and One FM radio networks in Romania.

Magic FM and One FM are part of SBS Radio, which includes 15 radio networks and seven standalone stations in seven markets. SBS Radio is a big radio network in the Nordic region and is expanding its activities in Central and Eastern Europe.

PROFline is a subsidiary of International Datacasting Corp.

Magic FM and One FM will use IDC SuperFlex Pro Audio systems with uplink/head-end equipment and DVB-S/S2 professional satellite radio receivers. The manufacturer says the system can provide bandwidth savings of more than 30 percent on satellite transponders and features multichannel per carrier (MCPC) operation and IP multicast for the delivery of multiple channels of content to radio stations.

The technology also features MPEG-4 High-Efficiency Advanced Audio Coding (HE-AAC) technology. The system uses NetManager2 over-the-satellite network management system to interface with and remotely control the SuperFlex Audio receivers.

Daniel Klinger, technical manager for SBS Broadcasting Media Srl, said that SBS Radio plans to upgrade Kiss FM in Romania to the same system during 2010.
