Musicam USA Rolls Out NetStar IP/ISDN Codec

Musicam USA is promoting NetStar, a new digital audio codec. The company says it provides new methods and ease of use for sending and receiving real-time audio, contact closures and ancillary data.
The 2RU codec has stereo analog and AES/EBU IO. It can send and simultaneously receive bi-directional audio “via the widest variety of transmission methods,” including IP, ISDN and dedicated data circuits.
NetStar has G.711, G.722, MPEG 1 and 2 Layer II, and MPEG 1 and 2 Layer 3 to assure compatibility with older CCS and other codecs. It also has MPEG 2 AAC and MPEG 4 AAC Low Delay, which the company says delivers superior audio performance at lower bit rates.
“NetStar also provides bi-directional, uncompressed, linear audio over IP. … (It) can send and receive superb stereo over any LAN/WAN, DSL, ATM, frame relay or high-speed Internet connection,” the company stated.
The codec can detect a calling codec and synch to it; it can be operated from its front panel or an Internet Web browser.
