NAB Creates COO Position

First occupant is Ornelas, NAB exec and former senate aide to Smith

NAB has promoted Christopher Ornelas to chief operating officer and Joy Whitlow to chief financial officer and executive vice president of NAB Finance.

The COO position is newly created. Ornelas came to NAB last year as executive vice president and chief strategy officer. He had worked for Gordon Smith when the NAB head was a U.S senator; he was chief counsel on communications and technology policy in Smith’s Senate office, overseeing everything relating to communications, media, entertainment and technology before the Senate Commerce Committee.

He also had worked in the Washington offices of Wilkinson Barker.

Whitlow replaces Janet McGregor, who leaves NAB for a similar position at a defense contracting firm.

Whitlow joined NAB in July 2009 as vice president and controller, and has been responsible for managing accounting and finance functions. Prior to that, she spent seven years at WETA(FM) and television in Washington as budget manager, assistant controller and controller. Whitlow spent two years as a business manager for WGBH(TV), Boston.
