National Test Approaching; You Can Still Register in ETRS

FCC says participants that have not should do so immediately

If your station hasn’t yet registered in the Federal Communication Commission’s ETRS system, do so now.

The deadline passed in late August, as we’ve reported. Approached now by Radio World, a commission spokesperson did not come right out and say whether or how broadcasters might be penalized for not registering in the new EAS Test Registration System database on time, but emphasized that any EAS participants that have not registered should do so immediately.

All EAS participants are required to participate in the upcoming Sept. 28 national EAS test. Several weeks after the registration deadline, ETRS is still accepting registrations and Form 1 filings.

During the registration process, the commission has hoped to smooth out some difficulties that registrants faced by implementing a series of webinars, as we reported.

Radio World asked how many EAS participants had registered by the late August deadline; we were told that the staff is still processing filings and no final registration numbers are available, but at least 20,000 filings were initially submitted. (Some EAS participants may have multiple filings in the system.)
