Reuters reported this week that Boeing said it lost a competition to provide a satellite to XM, but that the manufacturer and XM declined to say who had won.
“XM would confirm only that it plans to buy a fifth satellite – to be kept on the ground as a spare – for about $186 million,” the news service reported in Chicago Business.
We reported XM had its third Boeing 702 satellite launched recently; a fourth will go up in 2007. Both will replace XM-1 and XM-2 as a solar array problem is ending their lifespan early.
