Positioning the announcement as an expansion of its cultural and arts programming, NPR is taking over national distribution for “World Cafe,” a program out of Philadelphia’s WXPN. The two-hour, weekday show had been carried by Public Radio International.
NPR also will carry “Conversations from the World Cafe.”
It will begin distributing the programs on July 1 to 185 public radio stations; NPR and WXPN said they plan to expand the World Café franchise in other ways as well.
“World Cafe” is already a marketing brand as well as a program. WXPN and a for-profit restaurant and performance venue called World Cafe Live both moved into a newly renovated historic property recently.
