Richard Klaus died this weekend. The founder of Media-Com Inc. was 86, according to the Plain Dealer. Media-Com runs WNIR(FM) and WJMP(AM) as well as two UHF TV stations. Klaus was the former VP/GM of WERE(AM).
“During his nearly 60 years in broadcasting management, Klaus helped get helicopter reports off the ground. He managed WERE in the 1950s and ’60s, when disc jockeys Bill Randle and Phil McClain helped launch the career of Elvis Presley and made Cleveland radio the testing ground for other rock ‘n’ roll acts,” the newspaper reported.
Klaus founded Media-Com in 1971. His sons Bill and Bob head the firm now.
