It sounds like the FCC is preparing to fine the satellite companies for the over-powered devices that XM and Sirius marketed in 2005–06. FCC Chairman Kevin Martin told attendees at The NAB Radio Show last week that while no more of those radios are being sold, “some may still be out there,” and “the FCC hasn’t released a financial penalty order on that yet.”
NAB complained to the FCC, which looked into the issue. Subsequently XM and Sirius retooled some devices and took others off the market for a redesign.
It’s unclear whether the devices continue to interfere with listening.
