Red Apple Media, the parent of WABC(AM) in New York and WLIR-FM on Long Island, has hired Bert Goldman as its chief technology officer, a newly created position at the company.
Owner and CEO John Catsimatidis said the company plans to increase its investment in radio, and called Goldman “an engineering specialist with insights that will bolster our growth strategy as we identify properties for our expansion.”
Red Apple noted that Goldman has five decades of radio engineering experience with “a wealth of information on improving facility coverage and value, all facets of radio station construction, and Federal Communications Commission rules and policies.”
Goldman worked with WABC(AM) in New York when he was with ABC/Disney. He has held corporate engineering roles with ABC/Disney Radio Division, Nationwide Communications and Shamrock Broadcasting, among others.
“At ABC/Disney, he provided engineering oversight for over 100 ABC O&Os, ESPN, Radio Disney stations, and the ABC Radio Network,” Red Apple stated in its announcement.
“He has engineered numerous station improvement projects, including stations in more than half of the top 25 radio markets, creating significant value for station owners.” He also has been active in technical groups at the National Association of Broadcasters and the National Radio Systems Committee.
Goldman also has his own engineering consulting firm, whose clients have included GeoBroadcast Solutions. He told Radio World he will continue his work with GBS but will scale back other consulting work.
He complimented Catsimatidis, saying “he has revived AM talk radio with big-name hosts and created renewed excitement for broadcast radio overall.”
