The Dallas-Fort Worth radio scene is mourning the loss of Hubert “Hue” Beavers, a veteran broadcast engineer whose career spanned more than five decades across Texas and the southwest. He died Oct. 23 at the age of 75.

According to his obituary, Beavers helped build, operate and maintain facilities for stations like KLIF(FM), KPLX(FM), KTCK(AM), KZPS(FM), KEGL(FM) and KZEW(FM). Throughout his time in the industry, he held roles as a chief and consulting engineer, as well as a station owner, general manager and broadcaster, including in Hunt County, northeast of Dallas.

Beavers’ fascination with electronics began in childhood, and he was building radios by the age of eight.

“Hue lived a life defined not only by the things he built, but by the people he touched along the way,” his family wrote.

He met his wife, Linda, in the early 1970s while working at KRIZ(AM) in Phoenix. Music and radio remained a constant throughout their relationship, and Beavers eventually created a dedicated streaming radio station for her named “K-Linda.”

Beavers’ obituary highlighted his intellect, humility and integrity, noting that even in his final weeks, Beavers could be found with a soldering iron in hand surrounded by circuits and wires. Outside of radio, he was active in his local community and served as United Way president for Hunt County.

He is survived by his wife, four children, five grandchildren, a sister and two stepsisters.

A celebration of life will be held Nov. 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Springcreek Church in Garland, Texas.
