WHYY has announced that Fred Vigeant has been named general manager of Pennsylvania’s WPSU(TV-FM), effective Oct. 26.
According to a release, Vigeant will lead a WPSU team already in place, with several staff members taking on new roles.
Vigeant’s appointment follows the Oct. 1 completion of WHYY’s acquisition of WPSU from Penn State University. WPSU is licensed to State College, Pa., and its full-power licenses and translators cover 24 counties for television and 13 counties for radio across central and northern Pennsylvania.
Philadelphia-based WHYY has retained WPSU’s name and call letters, and said the public media outlet remains locally focused and locally run.
WPSU’s updated personnel structure includes:
- Jeff Hughes, interim general manager during the transition
- Jon Widmer, director of technology
- Emily Reddy, news director
- Jeff Benzing, director of content and audience engagement
- Susan Chyzewski, director of education, grants and government relations
Search processes are underway to fill two additional leadership positions: director of advancement and director of broadcasting and programming.
Vigeant joins WPSU from WITF(TV-FM) in Harrisburg, Pa., where he served as vice president and chief audience officer since 2022. He previously served as WITF’s director of programming and promotion for TV and radio, a role he began in 2012.
He also spent 12 years at WRVO(FM) in Oswego, N.Y., serving in several roles, including program director and operations manager.
