Personalized Audio Mixes From Centre Court

The BBC teams with Fraunhofer IIS for customizable online audio mix of commentary and courtside atmosphere during Wimbledon.

BBC Radio 5 Live and Radio 5 Live Sports Extra are conducting an experiment for the Wimbledon tennis tournament, user-customizable audio feeds where the ratio of crowd noise to commentary can be tweaked to suit the individual listener’s preference.

Those who want to hear more analysis and description from Richard Bacon and the guest commentators can move the slider on the online NetMix Player in one direction, or in the opposite direction to add more court-side atmosphere. Neither extreme completely mutes the commentary or atmosphere.

The NetMix Player, available in Windows and Macintosh versions, was developed by Fraunhofer IIS and serves dedicated BBC experimental feeds from. The experimental feeds are only available during live coverage of matches Centre Court.
